Its name means “fire”, because of it’s wood’s property to easily catch fire. In Europe, the elderflower tree was famous for being the fairies’ dwelling.
It is said that it was a sacred tree for the Druids and they used to bless couple’s unions underneath it; it was a custom to present newborns before an elderflower so that the Mother Goddess would recognize them as respectful towards creatures from the woods and bless them.
It was also sacred for the Celts and they planted them on their graves; it was believed that if the tree bloomed, the soul of the person would find happiness on the other side, in land of eternal youth.
