flowers and legends
The legend says that one young lady named Carandaí was in love with the Sun and always watched it wherever it was.
The lady was a very kind cacique’s daughter, who was friends with a neighboring tribe’s cacique. One day the neighboring tribe’s cacique suggested to unify both tribes by marrying their children, but Carandaí’s father said that it was impossible because his daughter loved the God Sun.
Enraged, the neighboring cacique kidnapped Carandaí and mocked her telling her to ask her god for salvation; the young lady started crying and imploring the Sun until a thunderstorm fell from the sky that transformed the young lady into a sunflower, which, from that day, just like her, is always staring at the Sun. Because of that, the sunflower is a symbol of a happy life full of light.
